Kayla and sister Kenna take a rest from their digging today. Their Uncle Robert called to see how the progress was going on the two rare St. Joseph Amaryllis' he gave them for their garden. He has been preparing to start a business selling these rare lilies. Kayla and Kenna's great-grandmother cultivated these flowers for many years and now, she and Kenna will be able to sell these on the web to interested buyers in coming months. We are currently thinking of a name for the business and the pricing structure. These flowers will soon be available to ship across the United States, with a portion of the proceeds to benefit "Make-A-Wish Foundation," a charity the girls love to support. Kayla's company will process the orders and her Uncle Robert will handle the shipping and processing.

"Young Bucks" on Child Entrepreneurship, a Must Read for Parents of Kids

Kayla (7) has been on a journey into entrepreneurship for several years, developing her future interests. We would love to hear from parents who want to inspire their kids to think like millionaires. Kayla now has several interests in development from modeling, to acting, do becoming a song writer, screenwriter, and director.

Her mom and dad are reading this book together to help inspire their young children to develop the ability to dream and develop strategic thought. Her parents recently purchased a journal for Kayla at the cost of $8 and now she is in business. This journal is to be used for her to write songs, keep track of books she has read, and screenplay shorts she has developed.

Her parents pay her $5 per 2-page song, $10 per 10-page screenplay, and have developed a pay per book read model, starting at $1 going to $20 per book (the more complex books pay more). Kayla is not on an allowance, she must earn her money, just like a business owner. To add dimenstion to this business, her dad will convert a screenplay into a mini-film to be placed on the web. Kayla will cast and direct her own movies. So, stay tuned! She is excited about her next venture!

Pay Your Children To Read Books and Raise Leaders

Thank you for visiting Kayla's blog. I recently attended the "Houston Business Expo" here in Houston, where Kirbyjon Caldwell, Jim McIngvale, Deborah Duncah, and Mayor Bill White spoke. Mr. Caldwell talked about one of his friends John Maxwell a leadership training expert noted for many successful books and corporate speaking engagments. In Mr. Caldwell's message, he cited Mr. Maxwell - "If you want to raise employees, pay your chidlren to do chores. If you want to raise leaders, pay your children to read books."

So, Kayla and I discussed this and came up with a program where she will get paid to read books. We also have decided on a negotiated price on the value of the book she reads. A $1 book would be very limited writing and many pictures, a $3 book would have more words and fewer photos, and $5 would be a thicker book, with lots of words. We haven't decided on a limit yet (who knows how many books she will want to read now).

Finally, a $10 book is a book that daddy and mommy want her to read that has more reading than she might be used to. In addition, we still want to instill the entrepreneurship spirit in her and other young children (if you have children, we hope you try this). So, we have started an on-line bookstore for all of the books that she reads that are available on Amazon.com for sale. She will be providing her review of each of her books and you and your family can decide if you want to puchase the book.
